Does this shirt run big? How to read a size chart.
Does this shirt run big? How to read a size chart in a few plain steps, using a boxy tee that runs big on purpose and a tee that is true to size.

Does this shirt run big? It is a fair thing to ask before you order. Runs a little big is a common line in a review. But you do not have to wait for a review. The size chart can tell you first.
This piece shows how to read one. It uses two tees from Verified. as the example. One runs big on purpose. One is true to size.
Does this shirt run big? Start with the fit note.
Every product page here has a fit note next to the sizes. It says how the piece is cut. Read that before the numbers.
The fit notes come from the maker's spec for each piece, never from reviews.
The Runs a Little Big. Box Tee is boxy, with drop shoulders. The fit note says it runs a little big. Take your usual size for a loose fit, or one size down for a closer fit.
The Verified. Tee has set-in sleeves. Its fit note says true to size. Take your usual size.
Two kinds of size chart.
A size chart can measure the shirt, or the person. They are not the same thing.
- Garment size is the shirt laid flat. Width is measured straight across, so it is half the way round.
- Body size is you. It is the chest size the shirt is meant for.
The gap between the two is the extra room. Take the Box Tee in size M. The body chart says it is for a chest of 97 to 104 cm. The shirt is 61 cm across, which is 122 cm all the way round. That is a lot of room, and it is why the tee looks boxy.
If you compare a shirt you own, use the garment chart. Lay your shirt flat and measure it the same way.
Measure a shirt you own.
- Chest. Lay it flat and measure straight across, 2 cm under the armholes.
- Length. Measure from the highest point of the shoulder down to the hem.
- Sleeve. Measure from the shoulder seam to the cuff.
Pick a shirt that fits the way you like. That is the one to measure.
Now hold your numbers next to the chart. The closest row is your size.
Here is size M in both tees, from the maker's garment charts.
- The Box Tee is 61 cm wide and 74 cm long.
- The Verified. Tee is 58 cm wide and 76 cm long.
So the Box Tee is 3 cm wider, but 2 cm shorter. That is what boxy means. It is wide and a little short, with the shoulder seam dropped down the arm.
The size range differs too. The Box Tee comes in S to 4XL. The Verified. Tee comes in XS to 2XL.
When a piece runs roomy.
Some pieces are cut big. The Verified. Hoodie is oversized. Its fit note says to take one size down for a regular fit.
Training tees sit closer. The Five Out of Five. Training Tee sits close but not tight. Take your usual size.
If you are between sizes, take the larger one for a relaxed fit. Every chart is in the size guide, in centimetres and inches. You can see every tee in the tees collection.
